It really started with our sneaker,” explained Derek Lam of the season’s inspirational springboard. What he mined, however, was less its athletic elements and more the casual, relaxed vibe. But, of course, this being the House of Tod’s, Lam steered that sensibility toward luxed-up territory. To wit, he transformed those comfort kicks into heels, and crafted chic bags from coated sweatshirt material. He extended the ease factor to the palette, too, with everything cast in faded hues of washed lavenders and blues that Lam dubbed “calming.” Clothing-wise, he kept things equally effortless. Suede pants got a louche touch in slouchy pajamalike silhouettes, while tops and jackets came cut with roomy dolman sleeves. But the lineup wasn’t without its whimsical moments, either. For example: the season’s introduction of the first-ever Tod’s doggy carrier.
