Say Hello Again… To The Little White Dress
Its official ladies, The Little White Dress (LWD) is back once again, this time for spring/summer 11. Perhaps the key piece of all spring/summer wardrobes, the Little White Dress is set to once again be a big hit. It’s stylish, sophisticated and a timeless classic.
When you think of white dresses, one thinks of pureness, elegance and perfection. Let us think back to the ever so iconic image of an effortlessly sexy Marilyn Monroe, pouting and smiling in a pure white dress. The LWD she is wearing makes her seem all the more beautiful; it gives her the innocence of a girl and yet the sophistication of a woman. The little white dress is a powerful fashion statement, it’s seductive and beautiful. This is exactly what this seasons white dress is all about. It is not about soft girly creams and off whites – they are crisp and clean, can easily transition from day to night, can be casually thrown on for a pretty daytime look, or can look hopelessly glam for the evening. All this makes this season’s white dress the most functional of them all.
On The Runways & Lookbook
The catwalk previews saw designers Dolce and Gabbanna, Dsquared, Erdem and Ralph Lauren sending model after model clad in white down the runway. One consistent theme was that of white lace, in particular it was the signature sex appeal of D&G, following the romantic trend. At Erdem, crisp white lace dresses, white appliqué and white chiffon were the main feature, following their usual beautiful, pretty and timeless style. Ralph Lauren featured beaded white lace dresses, which gave them an antique vibe – sure to please fans of vintage
The Little White Dress is a statement in itself and needs little accessorising. A slim tan belt around the waist will glam up a plain, unfussy dress. For daytime, brogues pretty up the look and add a hint of geek chic, whilst gladiators will give a Grecian, glamorous feel. For evening nude heels will make lengthen legs to model proportions and sexy up this already sensuous trend.
Make-up should feature glowing, sun kissed skin with natural browns and minimal eyes. Add flushed cheeks for a sexy glow and try adding bright pinks to lips for a sophisticated vibe. Try tousled loose hair (beach effect) or a low messy side ponytail – nothing too ‘done’ or fancy – as the dress should be the main feature of this whole look.
